Andrew Carr, writing on We Got Served, has had his hands on the Qosmio G40 and reckons it ‘offers everything you need in a media centre PC’, but that will close up when you’re done.

He doesn’t shy away from the fact that the Qosmio is ‘not a slim notebook PC’ and describes the inside of the device as having ‘several acres of white plastic’ to fill with gizmos and gadgets, which it does well with a ‘good quality keyboard’ and ‘striking’ Harmon Kardon speaker grills. He also mentions the hybrid tuner setup, which allows users to ‘watch and record two channels simultaneously’ through the Media Centre.

Summing up, Andrew reckons the ‘plethora’ of connections and ‘fantastic display’ make this machine a winner, but is quick to highlight that it is ‘not the most mobile of beasts’. Have you seen the G40? What are your opinions? Do you agree with Andrew’s thoughts? Head over and let him know.

Les capacités augmentent, et les prix diminuent petit à petit : la technologie SSD (Solid State Drive) serait-elle en passe de se démocratiser ? Toshiba vient ainsi d’annoncer la mise au point d’un dispositif de stockage de type SSD, qui utilise donc des modules de mémoire Flash en lieu et place des plateaux magnétiques des disques durs traditionnels, affichant une capacité de 256 Go. Toshiba évoque par ailleurs la mise au point de modules de mémoire Flash de dimensions réduites, destinés à être implémentés dans des machines de type netbooks, ces modules affichent des débits de l’ordre de 80 Mo/s en lecture et de 50 Mo/s en écriture.

Noch mehr News von der Ceatec: Toshiba hat neben dem SCiB Akku für Notebooks auch noch ein Handy-Prototyp vorgestellt, welcher sich im Handumdrehen mit Methanol betankt lässt.

Aber erstmal noch ein Nachtrag zu dem SCiB-Notebook-Akku-Prototyp. Mittlerweile gibt es auch jede Menge deutsche Berichte über die Neuigkeit. Ein guter Berichte ist auf golem.de.

Jetzt zu dem neuen Prototyp: Die Idee der Brennstoffzelle dürfe jedem bekannt sein, an Stelle von einem Akku hat man  einen Mini Generator im Handy, den man bei Bedarf aufüllen kann. Genau so ein Handy hat Toshiba jetzt vorgestellt. Es wird mit Methanol betankt und soll mit einer Tankfüllung 6 Stunden Gesprächszeit liefern. Nach den Angaben von Toshiba sollen 50ml für 15mal Nachfüllen reichen. Das heißt mit einem Flachmann (200ml) Methanol kann man 10 Tage am Stück telefonieren, das ist doch mal nicht schlecht. Das Betanken soll laut Toshiba in sekundenschnelle und auch wären des Betriebs möglich sein.

Die Technologie dahinter heißt DMFC (Direct Methanol Fuel Cell) und den News-Artikel findet ihr bei inside-handy.de.

However, according to those over at gadgettell.com, “Toshiba are taking a different approach”, and are aiming to recycle 12 million pounds of electronics in the US by 2010. Agreeing to recycle any kind of e-waste, “Toshiba will accept any sort of electronics from cell phones to computer to video game systems, all without having to buy a single thing” – unlike Dell, who only deal with Dell branded items.

Even better in these dark days of economic decline, “Toshiba will even pay you for recycling as a trade-in (which, admittedly Best Buy has offered before).  For example, my two year old MacBook Pro would get me $325, and a $25 Starbucks gift card.  Not bad” says the correspondent “if I wanted to get rid of my computer.”

Zur Ausstattung des Netbooks zählt ein 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo Prozessor , bis zu 3 GB Ram , eine 128 GB SSD Festplatte oder wahlweise eine normale 160 GB Festplatte , WLan 802.11 b/g/n sowie das 12.1 Zoll große Display mit einer Auflösung von 1280 x 800.

Für mich klingt das ganz nach dem Ausstattungsmerkmalen des Dynabook SS RX2, von dem vor zwei Wochen die Rede war. Das wiederum würde heißen, dass wir uns auf 12h Akku Laufzeit freuen können.

Bereits Ende Oktober werden wir es genau wissen, denn dann soll das Dynabook bereits auf den Markt kommen. Preis ist noch nicht bekannt, er wird auf 1200 € mit HDD Festplatte und auf 1930 € mit SSD Festplatte geschätzt.

Il a réinstallé windows après formatage, réinstallé les drivers et pilotes à l’aide du CD d’utilitaires et pilotes mais n’ai toujours pas de son…a t-il oublié une étape…
Est-ce quelque pourrait le dépanner “simplement” (sans trop de vocabulaire technique) ?

Drawing on the kind of generous spirit that I know is prevalent amongst talkToshiba readers up and down the country, today I come to you all with a question troubling ‘flogen’ over on boards.ie. Now, he’s looking for on the look out for a decent priced mid-sized laptop, somewhere higher than 10-11″ but a bit lower than 15.4″).

He says his favourite thus far is “the Toshiba U400 which he seems to be rather impressed with, but is holding out as of yet to see if he can find anything any better out – “it’s got to have an optical drive and a decent bit of HDD space, basically.”

But the responses thus far have been limited, and while one correspondent suggests that Dell could be the way forward, we were wondering if you could help out flogen. Have you had any experiences with the Toshiba Satellite U400, and if so – would it be your number one choice for the mid-range laptop market?
